[I like] the time I get to spend out of doors in the summer. I also have traveled to many different places throughout Alaska, I’ve seen a variety of wildlife, and I’ve met some great people...
What do you think of when you think of mining? Goldminers of the 19th century, who came to Alaska hoping to become wealthy? Deep, dark holes in the earth? Or Snow white and the seven dwarfs?
Mining is a growing industry in Alaska, and there are mines all over the state: from Kensington and Greens Creek in Juneau to Red Dog Mine north of Kotzebue; from Pogo Mine south of Fairbanks to Pebble Mine in southwest Alaska.
Mining is challenging work, but the extraction of minerals and metals is very important to our everyday life. In Alaska, the industry produces minerals, metals, and construction materials.
